Rowie is a native Mac app for CSV, JSON, Parquet, Excel, SQLite and MongoDB. Gigabytes open in a blink, and millions of rows scroll like a short list.
- CSV
- Excel
- JSON
- Parquet
- SQLite
- PostgreSQL
- MongoDB
- Redis

Reads CSV, TSV, JSON, NDJSON, Parquet, Excel, SQLite, PostgreSQL, MongoDB and Redis — local, or on your servers over SSH.
New in Rowie
Ask your data anything.
Open Talk to Data beside any table and ask in plain words. Rowie works out the answer with SQL, draws the chart, and opens the rows as a table you can filter and export.

Answers from the data
Every answer runs a query on your data, and the query is shown under it. No guessed numbers.
Charts and tables, together
Ask for a chart and get one, with the full result open as a table right beside the chat.
Follow-ups that remember
“Make it a bar chart.” “How many of them are refunded?” Each question builds on the last.
Private by default
Apple Intelligence runs on your Mac. No account, no API key, and your data never leaves it.
Apple Intelligence needs macOS 26 or later. Claude, Ollama and OpenAI work on any Mac that runs Rowie.
Your model, your choice.
Talk to Data uses Apple Intelligence on your Mac out of the box. Prefer Claude, a local model in Ollama, or GPT? Pick it in Settings, and the same questions, charts and queries work with any of them.

- Apple Intelligence DefaultBuilt into macOS. Free, private, no account. On your Mac
- Claude Claude CodeUses the Claude you're already signed in to. No API key.Cloud
- Claude API keyOpus, Sonnet or Haiku with your Anthropic key, kept in your Keychain.Cloud
- Ollama LocalAny model you run in Ollama, like Llama or Gemma. Stays on your Mac.On your Mac
- OpenAI API keyGPT models with your own OpenAI key.Cloud
With Claude or OpenAI, your question, the column names, a few sample rows and query results are sent to answer it. Your files are never uploaded.
Every column knows its type
Numbers, dates, text and true or false each get their own colour, and every header says what the column holds.

Every field of a row, at once
Click a row to read all its fields with their types. Step through rows with the arrow keys.

JSON you can actually read
Nested objects fold into a short summary in the table, and open as indented, highlighted JSON.

MongoDB, one tab per collection
Local, remote or Atlas, with TLS and SSH tunnels. A million documents load in about two seconds.

One window, everything open
Files, databases and connections sit in one sidebar, each with its tables under it. Switch in a click, nothing reloads.

Filter by typing, ticking or a range
Pick a column, then type, tick values or set a range. Dates get quick picks like Last 30 days, and the table updates as you go.

Clean data out. Original untouched.
Filter, choose columns and export just the rows you need, as a new file. Rowie only reads, so your CSV, database or server is never changed.

1Filter to what matters
Type, tick values or set a range. Queries and AI answers work too.
2Keep the columns you need
Tick the columns to show. Hidden ones stay out of the export.
3Export a new file
CSV, JSON, Parquet or Excel, exactly as shown. Then Show in Finder.
Your source stays exactly as it was. Rowie won't save over it, even if you pick its name.
Your servers, found for you.
Sign in over SSH and Rowie looks for the databases on the server, so you open them instead of hunting for paths. Save each server with a name and come back in one click.

Questions & answers
How large a file can Rowie open?
Files much larger than your Mac's memory. Rowie loads only the rows on screen, so a 1 GB CSV with 17 million rows shows its first rows in about 0.2 seconds.
Does Rowie change my files?
No. Rowie only reads. Sorting, filtering and hiding columns change what you see, never the file or database. There's no account, no analytics and no cloud.
Can I connect to MongoDB Atlas?
Yes. Use any connection string, including mongodb+srv://, with a username and password, TLS, or an SSH tunnel.
How does Rowie connect to my servers?
Through the ssh already on your Mac, so your keys, the SSH agent and the hosts in ~/.ssh/config all work, or with a password. Rowie then lists the MongoDB, Redis and SQLite it finds. A new server's fingerprint is shown before it's trusted, and passwords stay in your Keychain.
Does Talk to Data send my data anywhere?
Not by default. It uses Apple Intelligence, the language model built into macOS, so it runs on your Mac with no account and no API key, and your data never leaves it. Ollama runs on your Mac too. If you choose Claude or OpenAI in Settings, your question, the column names, a few sample rows and query results are sent to them to answer; your files are never uploaded. Every answer comes from a query run on your data, and the query is shown under the answer.
Which AI models can Talk to Data use?
Apple Intelligence by default (Apple silicon on macOS 26 or later, with Apple Intelligence turned on). Or, on any Mac: Claude through Claude Code, Claude or OpenAI with your own API key, or any model you run in Ollama. Switch in Settings › AI.
Is Rowie a subscription?
No. You pay once and keep Rowie, with every update. The first 100 licences are $19; after that the price is $79.
Which version of macOS do I need?
macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
